Not really. Of course to begin with, torque is rotational and "push" is linear. But more importantly, although effectively there is a direct relation between how hard you push a pedal and torque about the center of the crankset, that's only because in any particular case, the crank arm length is constant. Higher torque can be achieved with the same amount of push given a longer moment arm. Unfortunately, ergonomics restrict effective crank arm lengths to a fairly narrow range.
Of course we cannot generate any torque if we don't "push" on the pedals.... Do you have any comments which relate to the discussion at hand?
