Zack Cantor, the author, has convincing arguments about a short-term, very disruptive effect on society and the economy, brought about by a synergistic development of threee fairly new developments:
- autonomous cars,
- electric batteries,
- and ride sharing software.
To give others some idea of his rather radical predictions, an article on his blog is called
"How Uber’s Autonomous Cars Will Destroy 10 Million Jobs and Reshape the Economy by 2025" I don't agree with everything he says. For one thing, it all depends on how consumers feel about stepping into a car, and then sitting back while the damn thing drives itself. IMO, that consumer reaction remains to be seen, but it is crucial. Also, I'm not sure the driverless software and hardware is all that it's cracked up to be. Otherwise, there don't seem to be many other insurmountable obstacles to Cantor's vision of extreme disruption by this technology in 15 or 20 years.
