I think it really varies bike to bike in this era of touring bikes, as there wasn't a single specificied width that all makers spaced their canti posts at. I tried to mount Tektro 720s on my Centurion Pro Tour. By moving spacers around, swapping in thinline pads I almost got it to work but ultimately had no space if the wheel went out of true and had poor lever feel.
