Modern riveted chain as opposed to vintage riveted chain?

With the move to 10s and 11s, there are closer tolerances, and thinner plates and rivet heads. But the technology is essentially the same as it was a century ago, or with the shift from 1/4" to 3/32" chains and 10 speed bikes.
