But after this year's Trans Iowa (only one rider made the time cut to the first checkpoint, zero made it to the second), those who are traveling some distance generally want to make sure it's going to be a 200-mile race and not a 20-mile frolic in the mud. When a race costs more than a tank of gas to attend, these things become more important.
Wow. A friend of mine had done it this year, and mentioned not making the first checkpoint in time -- I had no idea that it was that bad!
