A question to the OP: You say you are taking Amtrak and bringing a recumbent. Have you checked to make sure you can bring it on board? Amtrak is pretty specific about bike sizing:
Amtrak - Plan - Onboard - Bring Your Bicycle Onboard
Any bike brought along as checked baggage (which is what you'd have to do if you are coming from MN) has to fit in one of Amtrak's bike boxes, dimensions 70" x 41" x 8.5", and cannot weigh more than 50 lbs.
