IMHO, a better bike than a hybrid nowadays is the gravel grinder. You can take it on the road and take it on dirt trails, rails to trails paths, MUPs, even do gravel roads without issues....and it offers a geometry that works with drop handlebars, which give you the ability to get low and more aero along with extra hand positions. The wider tires are more versatile.

You could add some clip on aero bars to your hybrid to get another position too.


When I had a hybrid (trek 7.5fx), I routinely took the bike on 40-50 mile trips without issues...it was a slower trip than the road bike though.
