The plastic cup is probably engaged over a good half inch or so, (all of it but maybe an eighth of an inch). It's just that the only other cartridge bb I've ever installed (a campagnolo) snugged up tight on both sides and this looks weird with the gap. Part of me is afraid that the exposed lip is going to chip off, but I guess as long as it's tight, it'll be fine. Thanks for the reassurance.
