I never use the small or the big ring on my Shimano 3x8.

So, can I convert it to a 1x8?

How would I do so?

I'm thinking that I would have to get a new BB and a specially designed crankset, right? A new BB - a slightly thinner one - so my single speed chainring is at the same position of the old middle chainring. Is that all there is?!
