I did not realise it, but bike tool bag may indeed be too much for the security. I have thought about biking to the airport on a couple of occasions. It's a good 40 kms one way, so I would have to change clothes and take a shower there before boarding. I know they have the facilities for that. I could leave part of my cycling specific gear (shoes, helmet, tools, lights etc) there in a locker.

I think the biggest problem would be luggage. If I could stuff everything I need in one pannier, I could take it in the plane as cabin luggage. Longer trips would require some creative thinking.
