I think you start seeing quality bikes at $650 - $900, but $1000 - $1500 gives you the best value in components, etc... Above $1500, it just very nice bikes, and in the thousands you start getting the best components and alternative frame materials (TI, Carbon). If you are looking now, you might still try to pick up an '05 at a decent discount (as much as 25% off).
