That's just silly. A friend of mine, very similar to the OP's friend, just got out of surgery for blockages in his heart. The day before he went into surgery he tried riding with us and didn't make it two miles, saying all along "Well, if I die, at least I died doing something I love." I told him that's ridiculous and luckily he went to get checked out the next day. He's lucky he didn't end up like the OP's friend. Heart disease kills more people than accidents and cancer every year so it's definitely not something to mess around with.
