I do pretty much the same thing. With no on coming traffic and plenty of room to the left I will pass without saying anything, or without warning. If multiple people are walking abreast I may or may not say something, it depends on how I observe their movements. If it is a much busier area, or people aren't paying attention I will alert them, but I will say "On your left" instead of just left, if I am with someone else I will say something like "Two on your left" to let them know there are multiples.
