Just did something similar with one of my friends, although his commute is considerably more challenging than mine is (mine is mixed mode net only 6 miles each way by bike plus about 35 miles train/bus and his is the same train or bus segment but then 14 more miles after that).

A nice benefit is that my pile of extra bike parts is available for him to try stuff out to see what he likes (grips, saddles, tires, lights, etc.) without having to buy anything just on faith, and I get to feel like all those parts are going to good use.

I currently have a Brooks Cambium saddle and Ergon grips on loan to him off one of my bikes because he hated the WTB saddle and Felt round grips his bike came with.
