I'm moving this fall to Salt Lake City for college, and have given a lot of thought into getting a fixie to get around town up there. Thing is, looking around it is kind of hard to find a pre-built bike in my price range. So I want to build my own with better components. I'm looking for sub-$400ish, ideally closer to $300-350. So for those who maybe have done this before, (or just those seasoned bikers with great input on the subject) what is your ideal parts list? OR if there is a factory bike in this price range that you would recommend please let me know. The ones I know about are Vilano, 6ku, SE (Draft, Lager, etc.), State Bicycle Co., PureFix, Schwinn, and a couple others in that price range. I've heard nothing but greatness about State, but $450 new is pushing it. Thanks for everything guys!
You are better off buying a complete bike. If you build your own for ~$400.00 it will be inferior to the complete bike. Components are "expensive" when purchased individually, unless you buy really low quality stuff.
