touring routes for northern california

I'm new to touring. I'm here in Berkeley California and I'd like to start going on some overnight and multi-day tours.

Can anyone recommend resources for planning & following routes ?

This would be maps, booklets, websites, electronics, etc. - whatever gets me on the best route.

I have mobile phone of course but I don't own a dedicated cycling GPS - although I could buy one if it's worth it.

Some rides I'm thinking of are Berkeley to Davis , Berkeley to Santa Cruz/Monterey , Berkeley to Petaluma/Bodega Bay

More challenging would be Berkeley to Eureka , Berkeley to Redding , Berkeley to Yosemite

Has anyone done any of these rides or similar ?

Google Maps is ok but I think it's making life unnecessarily difficult. The routes have zillions of segments.

How to reliably plan routes for overnight or multi-day trips ?
