After nearly 40 years, now I know!

I bought my 1st good bike in 1976 or 77. Saved for 3 months riding a crappy old bike from Kresge to work. Our local ski/bike shop had a red & white 10 speed with unpainted aluminum forks and made in England. I wanted that bike so bad and finally bought it. I was king of the neighborhood on that bike. $176 was a lot of money. I rode that bike until 1993 when I sold it to another Marine. I was about 145lbs and the Master Sergeant I sold it to was probably 225lbs. Some of you already know where this is going. About a month later "Top" was banged up pretty good and I asked what happen. Said he was riding down the street and the front of the bike broke off. I asked if he hit anything and he said only going up those sloping curbs leading to sidewalks. If we only had the online social resources back then! I had no clue about the forks on that bike until I was poking around this forum. I rode that bike thousands of miles and leading up to boot camp, 25-30 miles a day. I dodged a bullet, but Top wasn't so lucky. I feel sort of guilty after all this time, but had no clue. Yep, the old Viscount.
