It never occurred to me that I might need a specialized tool for cutting bike cables. Well now that I'm upgrading to new brifters, I see that maybe I do. $20-$30 for something I'll almost never use seems ridiculous, though. Are there any alternatives? My pliers / wire cutter did not do such a good job when trying them out on the old cable.
