Length of Presta valve

Needed to chance some tires around and put them on a set of Bontrager RXL wheels. These are alloy with a bit of a V. My son has a bag of used tubes so I grabbed a tube with a short stem and when I tried to inflate it, it was too short for the air chuck to grab it. So I replaced the tube with one with a 60mm stem. Now it looks odd so I stopped at the LBS and there was a brand new bike with the same wheels and Trek used 60mm stems so I guess they're OK. Looking online I see there are 42mm stems.

Other than ascetics, does it matter if they are so long?
