Or the guy just likes nice bikes, doesn't care about you, your 40 year old bike or if you can pass him.
It seems like it would be better to keep the old bike, and hold on to the illusion that a faster bike would make me faster.
Is that anti-snobby? I wouldn't actually reject a nicer bike, just wouldn't go out of my way for one.
