Well the bumps on the road are only occasional so the suspension requirement isn't critical, but would be nice - I don't ride so seriously that I'd notice much of a loss in energy due to the shocks. 15 years ago I used to ride a Giant Yukon with front suspension as a 'city bike' and it was just fine.

However, for the riding on smooth roads, during long stretches I get tired of bending, which is why I'm even tempted to get a bona fide comfort bike that will allow me to ride more upright.
