Thinking of the non-removable PADDING (either synthetic or leather/Chamois) as THE UNDERWEAR, is the proper frame of mind.
Properly designed and fitted, Lycra/Spandex bike shorts should *Virtually Disappear* from Your Awareness.

If your shorts instead, feel like a *Loaded Diaper* something is wrong (most likely the cheap padding is too thick, not properly contoured).
Similarly, chafing of any kind shouldn't be tolerated. The offending sportswear relegated to the RETURN for Refund pile, or if ineligible for return, to be used for brief casual errands, short rides.

In other words, Commando is the way to go.
