If the chain is clean to your satisfaction and properly lubricated, you could apply a coat of furniture wax to the outside plates. I've never done this myself but I've used Pledge on bike frames and there's no reason, aside from the oily surface of the links, that it won't leave a wax finish that you can polish. I would spray it on a cloth and then pass the chain through while back-pedaling the bike.
