...maybe this requires more explanation. When I first started doing this, it was because the Park double was all I had available, and I was pretty much happily unaware of the prohibition in Sutherland's. The puller fit snugly, the crank removal was pretty straight forward, and I continued in this practice. Then, years later, maybe here on teh BF, I read some reference and admonition with regard to using this puller on these cranks. I was puzzled, and I still wonder what is the source of the difficulty, mostly because I've not seen a case of failure in person.
I speculate that, like many cranks, until you pull them the first time, the threading is a little "fat" until you thread a puller in there the first time. So when I thread in my Park, and it feels pretty snug, and the threads tighten nicely, it might be for this reason, that no one has ever put a 23.35 official Stronglight puller in there. Once that is done,(so goes my theory), the hole and threads are oversized enough that there is a problem with a 23.0 puller. I have certainly seen Stronglight cranks that were stripped by people a few times. Inevitably, it was the case that they tried to pull them with a standard 22.0 puller. Anyway that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Anyone, including me, who threads in a square taper crank puller ought to be checking the feel and fit of that puller prior to applying tension to the pulling bolt.
