Yeah, pairing between my smartphone and bluetooth on my car gets buggy too. It seems to drop signal quite a bit.

Smartphones do everything the Edges do, and do it better...aside from battery life screen on and durability. Once those two are put to bed Garmin is going the way of RadioShack. I say that as someone on his 3rd and hopefully last Edge.
I've seen a lot of issues with people using their phones and running the strava app. Usually, the gps sends them into a lake or just stops working and reconnects at the end of the ride, so they have all this data that doesn't make any sense. It just doesn't seem to work as well as the garmin units do. Smartphones don't do everything a garmin edge unit does better...at least not in my experience.
