When you live atop a 500 hill surrounded by other similar sized hills, you quickly appreciate a 42/28 or a 34/30.
I rode the old "race" gearing for years but why should I stress my knees if I don't have to?

For a few reasons, I'm finding myself with more seat time on hills.. But I've hit a lot of hills with pretty high gearing, and just don't select the big rear sprockets even if I have them unless I'm towing cargo. Nothing real tall lately, but I've hit quite a few decent hills.
