Eels are scavengers, and with all the environmental-friendly efforts we've been putting in lately, our waters are becoming too clean for eels. They're getting scarce and more expensive, which is a shame.

I think your neighbor needn't worry. Although eels are notoriously difficult to kill, once they're dead they tend to stay dead. And even if they came alive, they wouldn't hurt you. (Unless you were dead of course. Then they'd eat you. )
