Back when I was in college, we were told that bikes were not allowed in the dorm rooms, and that they must be locked up to the bike rack outside. Supposedly enforced by the custodial/cleaning crew. If they saw a bike, they informed dorm management. Yeah riiiiight. We were not about to leave bikes with leather Brooks saddles sit outside in the snow/rain. We had three bikes in our room. We took off the wheels and slid the frames under the bunk beds. Yes, we carried them up the stairs to our room, not through the main lobby. Oh, and each of our bikes were 'only' worth hundreds, not thousands. Well adjusted to today's dollars they'd be close to a grand. My Fuji S-10S, and two of my roommates had Viscounts - one the Aerospace Pro, and another a Viscount GP. Other guys in our dorm did much the same. One had a Raleigh, another a Paramount plus his Crit bike....
