A shorter trip is just going the Palms to Pines from Palm Desert to Pinyon Pines. It's only 15 miles, but in that 15 miles you climb 3,835 feet. The worst part is the traffic going uphill. The road isn't all that wide and many drivers try to shorten the corners at 45 mph and they can't see around the entire corner. Google Maps times the ride at about 3 hours. Going downhill will be much faster.
