This bike started life as a ī94 Focus Crater Lake steel hybrid (stock photo):
It was trashed and dumped in a hedge with a broken bottom bracket, at which point the process of bringing it back to life began.
Itīs currently in its second build in my hands. Pre-paint it was running a mixed 2x8 Sora/old 105 drivetrain and cantis.
Post-paint job (Hammerite brush on īcopperī) it has a 2x10 Tiagra groupset with an FSA Vero square taper crank, and Tektro mini-V brakes. The rear mech cable is a fancy Jagwire teflon/Kevlar combo, it shifts beautifully.
The frame is low-grade steel, so pretty thick gauge, and has compact geometry so itīs remarkably stiff. I run 622/30 tyres for a cushy ride. Hand-laced rear wheel, so pretty bombproof.
Iīve put about 12,000km on it, plenty more to come!
The current front wheel is off my Merckx as the old dynamo hub front delaminated at the brake track and disintegrated. Very scary.
