Strava/map my ride elevation

I run strava every time I ride in order to track my mileage and speed. I've never used map my ride, but a guy at work printed out a route that he made for me and was telling me about it. I looked at the website. Some of the same routes I ride are routes that are created in map my ride. When I ride them and track them via strava, it tells me my elevation gain for the ride is anywhere from 0-33ft. Map my ride says the route (that was ridden by someone else) is over 400 ft elevation gain. If I look at individual segments on strava within that ride, there are a couple that are over 200 ft.

There is a bridge near my house with a max elevation of 65 ft. If I go across it and ride, then come back, I get an elevation gain of 62ft. Shouldn't it be 130?

What's the deal? I know no matter what, there's not any real climbs, but I'd like to know what is going on with the differences.
