Astana have named Fugelsang their GC leader, saying Nibali's role will be to hunt stages. Nibali sounds bewildered by his lack of form, saying he's not even related to the Nibali of 2014. I'm wondering if he'll climb off.
Seems to me that the remaining GC contenders - Q TvG and maybe AC - need to attack early on stages with multiple big climbs, try to get all the Sky domestiques dropped on an early climb while sacrificing their own team too, then go one on one against Froome over 30-40 km. Hard to beat Froome, in his current form, in a set-piece 6 km MTF shootout. May be able to gap him on a fast difficult descent. May be able to outlast him on a succession of long solo climbs. May be able to pray to the rain Gods.
The alternative would be to hope that Froome fades in week three, or crashes/punctures, and that seems too passive.
