Help Removing Shimano Brake Levers

Hello everyone!

I've got an older Fuji Sandblaster I'm looking to do some minor repairs on, one repair being to place the handlebars. Before doing so I started checking out how I'd go about removing everything and the only thing that doesn't seem to have a clear way to remove is the brake levers. They are surrounded in a plastic housing with no really clear way to take them off or seam where they would separate. I can stick a small flathead in between to pry back the plastic some but still can't really seem to get a good look in there. Aside from completely breaking the plastic off the of the levers does anyone have any insight on how I should be going about removing these? You can kind of see what I'm talking about in the photo. The only real exposed hardware is this "trap door" looking piece near the grips which you can see as well.

Any help removing these is much appreciated. Thanks!
