The rust was mostly surface rust on the prior paint job (that was not original either) - I wire brushed and sanded best I could - none of the rust (as bad as it looked) was down to the steel. I painted it rattle can believe it or not. 1 coat primer, 2 color and 3 clear...

I had that checker flag contact paper and I knew since I was going to be 'flipping' this bike (it is way too big for me) - I did not want to spend the $40 on the repro decals off eBay... next owner can do that if they want. But - I needed something there was so much real estate since the frame is large!
