NO you have NOT; you have used the adjuster which moved the housing out from the handle - it did NOTHING to the cable on the inside.

To remove these brake handles you MUST remove the cable from the brake lever. You can leave the housing (black thing that goes into the adjuster) alone. Once you have removed the cable from the lever, and pull the lever all the way, down in the bottom you will see a bolt, loosen it just enough so that you can slide the lever off the end of the bars. If you loosen it too far, it will be EXTREMELY difficult to put back together.
