There is a good number of road bike (commuters) that use "MTB" cleated shoes.
I'll tell you, walking up marble starways wearing leather soled shoes with plastic cleats and no heals was.... interesting...
Anything else spilling back from MTBs to Road?
Seems like roadies usually get that extra gear first. MTBs get fatter, stiffer frames, bars, axles, steerers, etc first.
EDIT: although, I think 35mm clamp bars and stems hit roadieland first.
1-1/8" straight steerer action is already ancient history for enthusiast MTBs. Try finding a sub 4 pound straight steerer 1-1/8" suspension fork these days.
