I am not sure about the logic of riding long distances with a tyre that is down to the wear indicators. Fresh rubber is the norm for me when setting off on a randonnee over 300km or a tour longer than a weekend if the tyres are that low.
I also have never carried a spare tyre with me.
The logic in this case is that I have no rides planned in the near future that are much over 50 miles. Well, maybe a little more tomorrow. The tires are expensive. I'd like them to last as long as possible.
