Yes it will cause a problem. The headset will not stay in adjustment and spring bracket needs to be tight in both sides. You ne.d to cut it down to the same size as the orignal fork was. It has to be straight cut and it you do not feel you can do that take it to bike shop. They probably have a jig to cut it straight. You might get by with a second nut on top of the fork bracket.
