With a masterlink, I used to remove the chain, but I'm too lazy/cheap to have multiple chains going at once and often want to ride before solvent has had a chance to evaporate. So now I put a drop of oil in each link, let it sit, wipe it off, and go ride (then wipe it off again. I'm with you in that anything else takes too much time away from riding.
