You're sure you have a Colnago, right?

Post some photos of the lugs and bottom bracket.
Also do you have the brand/model of the dropouts (front and rear).?

Paint over the chrome might be able to be chemically stripped, then polished. With some luck, chrome restoration with no painting. Lots of reports of polishing chrome with aluminum foil too.

My bike is a little older than yours, and some items are a bit past the expiration date
