Speaking from my own experience, I wouldn't recommend it. My Surge gave me nothing but problems for HR tracking, and if you visit the FitBit forums, you'll find and extremely long-running thread with others having the same. Great concept, and a nice looking watch, but pretty much useless for anyone at all interested in serious HR training. I now have a Garmin Fenix 3, and pair it with either the Garmin strap or a Mio Fuse. I never tried to set up interval workouts on the Surge, and don't remember if you can....but I suspect not.
