I said travel light, not travel with less weight. Show me a mini pump that will fit in a normal sized saddle bag (an Arundel Dual, to be exact)...oh, and make sure that mini pump can get my tire up to 100psi without needing to pump it for 20 minutes. I do not like the looks of a pump strapped to my bike and riding in 110+ degree Phoenix heat, the less I have in my jersey pockets, the better.
Honestly, if I'm concerned that much about a few grams, I'll carry one less water bottle.
Sorry, I always thought traveling light meant not carrying much weight or that many items. If you go CO2 you have the adapter and as many cartridges you bring (2-3) so that would be more than a single pump or you are carrying more weight.
Sorry, to me, that is traveling heavy.Either you have more items or more weight.
A downtube mounted frame pump is out of the way and out of sight and I keep my person as light as possible. The only difference between downtube and storing it in a larger saddle bag is you can see the pump on the downtube. Big deal. In both cases, the weight or necessity of a pump is managed on the bike. Sure, the Co2 could be put in a pocket but I prefer to keep my pockets clear. Besides, if I have to carry that stuff on me, it tugs at my jersey and I do not find that comfortable. I rarely keep items in my pockets if I can avoid it.
To each their own...
