If the right crank is off, it's very easy, and you don't need or want a repair stand. You might want the help of a friend. Find anything solid with a hole, slot or recess that the right side of the spindle can recess in to. Lay that on a workbench, directly over a leg, or on the floor, or tree stump, or whatever similar. Lay the frame on that with the spindle pocketed in the slot so it's not bottomed. Have a friend hold the bike so the face is parallel and well supported.
Now when you hammer, all the energy will be concentrated effectively because the frame is braced and can't "roll with the punch".
BTW- the support doesn't have to be a single block with a hole. It can be 2 blocks of equal thickness placed side by side with a gap for the spindle.
