Here in SE Pennsylvania the rail trails that aren't paved tend to be rolled limestone cinders which are pretty nice riding. I have a Quick 5 that's a few years old and am still running the Kenda 700x38 tires that came on it (haven't ridden too much!) and find it quite OK. Occasionally there will be a washout, or a repair crew gets over enthusiastic and lays down way too much gravel or cinders which can be a bit dodgy, but that's an exception. I actually bought the Quick 5 to ride these trails.

Actually in some spots where tree roots are popping up under the blacktop, the rolled cinder portions are smoother!
