I think you're getting good advice. You have plenty of bike shops to check out. I'll second the advice to get one with a good climbing range since you might have a lot of hills. Let me add this bit of advice which hasn't been mentioned yet and is essential: Get a mirror! It will make riding with traffic a lot easier and safer. After that, consider lights especially if you'll be riding in low light times of the day.
