For that kind of rack your best option is to never leave it unattended while the bike is on there.
This is really the only answer. There is a gentleman who parks at work everyday with his bike on his hitch mount, and every time I see it I wonder how long it will last before stolen. Especially when the college kids return later this month.
If you leave that trunk rack on long enough it will wear the paint away.
