Just get whatever is cheaper for you. You can pick up smallish 700c tires that have directional tread like Conti Top Contacts. Ride both bikes and buy the one you like the most. I ride a frame which can accept anything from 23 slicks to 44 studded with fenders. I can load up with racks all over the place or go lite and fast. That is what's important to me - mostly because budgetary restrictions prevent me from owning multiple bikes.

What's most important to you? Buy according to that.
