I'm not sure about walkers, but for joggers/runners, it is easier to run on asphalt than concrete.

Now, tell me why a lot of walkers like walking in the bike lane (on a regular road), when there is a perfectly good sidewalk just a few feet aways, and half the time they are walking with the flow of traffic. (I understand the joggers/runners doing it, but if they must, I prefer that they do run in the bike land opposite traffic, so we can both see each other.)
