I have four friends who have had the gastric bypass surgery. All four lost over 100 pounds post surgery (one lost over 200 pounds) in the first year. After that, all four of them gained back nearly everything they had lost because they didn't address the root issue that was causing them to overeat in the first place.
Thankfully two of them have since made the necessary life adjustments and are back on track towards obtaining a healthy weight. A third is now struggling with advanced COPD and I'm scared I'm going to lose him in the next couple years. The fourth seems unwilling to make any changes to get his life under control (weight or otherwise.)
Just a reminder to anyone considering the surgery that, as others have stated earlier in this thread, the sleeve is just a tool to assist with weight loss. It is not a magic bullet. You still need to make life adjustments to fix the root cause.
