I've got your standard 50/34 and 11-32 cassette on my road bike. I spend most of the time in the 34 ring up front on flats, and I'm a relatively good rider. Big ring is generally only used on down hills, but there are rides I never use it. A lot of times 34/11 is the fastest I need to go.
